Peasant Under Grass

Pheasant Under Grass PG-A

Pheasant Under Grass- a combination of non silver van dyke process and watercolor

The traveler a century and a half ago, standing on the edge of the western prairie for the first time, cast his eye over the vast expanse with a deep feeling of astonishment. He saw nothing but blue sky and the wide plain for mile after mile, hour after hour until it met the horizon. Indeed, the tall prairie grass once extended from Canada to Mexico.

Today the Flint Hills region of east central Kansas includes the only remaining tall grass prairie in the United States. These quietly rolling hills are part of an 11,000 acre sanctuary provided by the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.

Van Dyke, Photogram nature print, Ink,  29x 46", Madeline and Robert Longstreet
